Cypress yarn was developed during a study on natural fibers and their impact on people’s skin. Made from a Japanese cypress tree variety that produces high-quality fibers with excellent antibacterial and antiseptic properties, Cypress yarn is ideal for skin-to-skin applications, moreover, thanks to its relaxing properties, cypress fiber is considered a therapeutic tool by the feng-shui practice.
Tested (UNI EN ISO 2064), for antibacterial efficiency of Cypress/Cotton fabric against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus, these materials reduce bacterial growth respectively by 60% and 85%. The cypress genus is one of several genera within the Cupressaceae family, which includes several evergreen trees that grow up to 50 m in height, with 2-6 mm long scale-like leaves (arranged in opposite pairs) that persist for 3-5 years.
Cypress wood is very hard and therefore it has been widely used in building and for furniture-making, moreover, thanks to its aromatic properties, it repels moths. From the distillation of its leaves, it is possible to obtain an oil used in the pharmaceutical industry, besides, according to traditional medicine, Cypress trees purify the air.
A special and innovative procedure allowed to create Cypress yarn (36/1 count) that contains 15% Cypress fiber and 85% organic cotton. Aside from having extraordinary anti-bacterial (UNI EN ISO 20645 certified), anti-mould, relaxing and deodorizing properties, Cypress yarn is so strong that, even if mixed with cotton (80/90%), it is still extremely efficient. Cypress yarn is ideal to make 100% natural fabrics that are completely eco-friendly.
Specific tests, performed by a certified external laboratory (UNI EN ISO 20645 criteria) proved the antibacterial properties of Cypress against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus, with a respective reduction in bacterial growth of up to 60% and 85%. Test results can be made available upon request. Spool weights 1250 gr. net.
